Hickory City Schools Board of Education Ward 5
The Election Hub has partnered with The Chamber of Catawba County to bring local election information to Catawba County voters.
The Hickory City Schools Board of Education “is committed to ensuring the success of every child in our public school system.” There are seven members: one at-large and six who represent wards within the district. The latter six are elected by voters in their respective wards only. Terms are four years.
Hickory City Schools has, according to its website, over 3,900 students. The Catawba County Board of Commissioners voted in April to merge the county’s three school districts. That merger is scheduled to take place in July 2028, if approved by the State Board of Education, which is expected to consider the proposal later this year. The board voted for the merger because of declines in enrollment in Hickory City and Newton-Conover Schools and increasing enrollment in Catawba County Schools.
