Newton-Conover Schools Board of Education Newton District
The Election Hub has partnered with The Chamber of Catawba County to bring local election information to Catawba County voters.
This board of education has six members and establishes guidelines for school operations. Board members have three representatives from Newton and three from Conover.
According to its website, Newton-Conover Schools serve approximately 2,700 students. The board was criticized for spending some of its general fund, but board members say that was a common occurrence with school districts around the state, and that it would reduce or cut funds as necessary to balance the budget in the future. The Catawba County Commissioners voted to merge all the county’s school districts. If the North Carolina Board of Education approves the merger, it will go into effect in July 2028 and the new school district will be called the Catawba Valley School District and be governed by the Catawba Valley Board of Education.
The three Republicans running in the general election are unopposed.
