Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners At-Large
According to the county website, “The Board's major responsibilities include adopting the annual County budget, setting the County property tax rate, and assessing and establishing priorities on the many community needs, especially those related to health, education, welfare, mental health and the environment.” A commissioner's term is two years.
There are nine seats on the board of commissioners: three elected at-large (countywide) and six elected by districts. All nine commissioners are Democrats, though there are sometimes disagreements.
In the March primary, the three at-large incumbents won in a competitive 10-candidate primary and have no Republican opposition in the general election. Voters can select up to three at-large candidates.
