Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners District 1 (Democratic Primary)

According to the county website, “The Board's major responsibilities include adopting the annual County budget, setting the County property tax rate, and assessing and establishing priorities on the many community needs, especially those related to health, education, welfare, mental health and the environment.” The commissioners’ terms are two years.

District 1 is in the northernmost part of the county.  Current District 1 representative Elaine Powell decided not to run for election this term, so there is no incumbent in the race. 

The winner of this race faces Republican Aaron Marin in the general election in the fall of 2026.
