Mecklenburg County Sheriff (Democratic Primary)

The duties of the county sheriff include overseeing the county jail,  providing security for the county courthouse, serving civil and criminal papers, receiving and booking arrestees and issuing gun purchase and concealed weapon permits.  This role is a four-year term.

Incumbent Democrat Gary McFadden is seeking a third term and faces three primary challengers. 

There is no Republican in the race, so the winner of the primary will win the election.

A recent petition to remove McFadden from office was dismissed, though a State Bureau of Investigation (the entity that researches public corruption) inquiry into McFadden is ongoing.
