N.C. District Court District 26 Seat 6 (Unexpired)

Judicial candidate research was completed with help from the Wake Forest School of Law Pro Bono Project.

District courts hear civil cases that involve divorce, child custody, child support and cases involving less than $25,000. They also hear criminal cases involving misdemeanors and infractions. There are 21 district court judges in Mecklenburg County, each serving four-year terms. All are Democrats. Nine are up for election in 2026, and all are unopposed.

This race is to complete the term of Judge Ty Hands, who recently retired and was elected in 2024. This race is unexpired because the seat will be up for election again in 2028. Kimberly Best, a former superior court and district court judge, is the only candidate.
