N.C. Court of Appeals Seat 3 (Democratic Primary)
The North Carolina Court of Appeals is the state's intermediate appellate court; district and superior courts are the lowest level of courts and the North Carolina Supreme Court is the highest level. Currently 15 judges hear cases in panels of three. The majority of cases appealed from the Superior and District courts in civil and criminal cases are heard by the Court of Appeals. Judges of the Court of Appeals are elected in statewide races and serve eight-year terms.
Democrat Allegra Collins vacated the seat for this election so there is no incumbent in the race. The winner of this race faces Republican Craig Collins in the fall. Republicans hold 12 of the 15 seats on the N.C. Court of Appeals.
