Description:

Stephens emphasizes academic excellence, school safety, fiscal responsibility and increasing parental involvement in education. He has said he wants to strengthen partnerships between schools and families while preparing students for future success. In campaign material, he says that the school board will be "good stewards of the yearly budget." Gaston County Schools have faced budget shortfalls recently requiring layoffs and emergency funding from the county. Stephens was elected to the Board of Education in 2022 after running unopposed for the Riverbend Township seat. He says he "wants to honor his ancestors by leaving Gaston County better than he found it."
