Ager's top issues are helping Western North Carolina recover from Hurricane Helene, enabling affordable, quality healthcare and supporting the agriculture industry. He wants recovery funds to help with hurricane recovery and advocates for “Medicare's power to negotiate drug prices." He says he also wants to "reform the tax code so folks at the top pay their fair share" and supports "campaign finance reforms that shine a light on dark money." In an interview with an anti-MAGA commentator, Ager mentioned aspiring to be bipartisan in order to solve problems. He says on his website that he has no problem “speaking out against my own party or extremists.”

Ager was raised in Fairview, N.C,. and raised on Hickory Nut Gap Farm, which has been in his family for five generations. His grandfather, father and brother have all served in the N.C. legislature, and his grandfather was also a U.S. Congressman. He has a wife and three boys. Ager and his wife transformed his family farm into a sustainable meat company that employs 25 and supplies products to Whole Foods, Earth Fare and other grocers. He attended A.C. Reynolds High School and received a bachelor’s from Warren Wilson College.
