Description:

Setzer is running for his 15th term in the N.C. House. He is the Speaker Pro Tempore and is the second-longest serving legislator in the N.C. House. He currently serves as Senior Chairman of Finance, Chairman of the House Select Committee on Property Tax Reduction and Reform, and Vice Chairman of Insurance. He also serves on three additional committees. He was the first primary sponsor of three bills in the most recent legislative session including one to allow school boards to set their own opening dates for each school year. His additional legislative work includes unemployment-insurance benefits and a tax credit, local down-zoning authority, underground-utility safety, continuing-care retirement communities, interbasin-transfer policy, and a corporate-campus redevelopment tax credit.

Setzer works at his family’s company, which manufactures concrete and metal pipes. He is a lifelong resident of Catawba and has as associate degree from Lees-McRae College and a bachelor’s degree in political science from UNC Greensboro.
