Description:
Foxx is a longtime incumbent whose top priorities are the economy, healthcare, energy, budget and tax reform and education. She wants to advocate for "fairer, simpler and lower taxes on American families and job-creators," replace ObamaCare, reduce regulatory burdens and shrink the national debt. She also wants to return education "flexibility to the local level" and give future seniors "the option to choose between traditional Medicare and a wide variety of competitive health plans." She recently sponsored a bill restricting federal funds to organizations associated with the abortion industry. She is chair of the House Rules Committee and serves on the Education, Workforce and Oversight and Government Reform Committees.

Foxx was born in New York, and her family later moved to North Carolina. She and her husband, Tom, have been married for nearly 50 years, and they ran a nursery and landscaping business. She was a former sociology professor at Appalachian State University and president of a community college. She has a daughter. She holds a bachelor’s from UNC Chapel Hill and a master’s and a doctorate from UNC Greensboro.
