William (Gus) Anthony

Anthony has served as a judge since 2022. He was in private practice prior to that.

There was little available to provide evidence of Anthony’s judicial philosophy.  Anthony was previously disciplined by the N.C. State Bar. In 2011, he received a two-year stayed suspension for violations related to the management of his firm’s trust account. Anthony and his law partner repeatedly failed to follow required trust-account recordkeeping procedures and, on some occasions, inadvertently allowed client funds to be used for credit-card processing fees. The two-year suspension was stayed for three years subject to conditions, including CPA monitoring of the trust account and completion of a trust-account accounting or CLE course. A review of appellate decisions did not identify any cases in which Anthony's orders were reversed or vacated on appeal.
