Cabarrus County Sheriff

The Election Hub has partnered with The Chamber, Leading Business in Cabarrus to bring voters information about Cabarrus County candidates.

The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office provides law enforcement and related services to all of the citizens of the county, including the municipalities of Concord, Harrisburg, Kannapolis, Midland and Mount Pleasant. While Concord and Kannapolis operate police departments that provide primary law enforcement services to the citizens of those municipalities, the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office provides supplemental services to these municipalities when needed.

Sheriff Van W. Shaw is seeking his third term in office. The Sheriff’s Office has over 400 employees, composed of sworn officers with full powers of arrest, as well as detention officers and civilians. There are also active auxiliary officers, made up mostly of retired officers. The Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office maintains the only detention center in Cabarrus County.
