Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners At-Large (Democratic Primary)
According to the county website, “The Board's major responsibilities include adopting the annual County budget, setting the County property tax rate, and assessing and establishing priorities on the many community needs, especially those related to health, education, welfare, mental health and the environment.” The commissioners’ terms are two years. Six commissioners are elected in districts, and three are elected at-large, or across the entire county.
Although the board is currently composed of nine Democrats and no Republicans, there have still been disagreements among members over direction and priorities.
Voters in the primary can vote for up to three at-large candidates. The top three vote-getters will be elected.
The three winners in the primary will face no Republican opposition in November.
