Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners District 2 (Democratic Primary)

According to the county website, “The Board's major responsibilities include adopting the annual County budget, setting the County property tax rate, and assessing and establishing priorities on the many community needs, especially those related to health, education, welfare, mental health and the environment.” The commissioners’ terms are two years.

Longtime incumbent Vilma Leake is the oldest candidate running in Mecklenburg County. While she has been endorsed by the Black Political Caucus of Charlotte-Mecklenburg in the past, she was not endorsed this year.

The winner of the Democratic primary faces Republican Angela White Edwards in November’s general election.
