U.S. House of Representatives (NC-6) (Democratic Primary)
U.S. Representatives serve two-year terms representing approximately 750,000 residents of their congressional district. They vote on federal legislation, serve on committees, and advocate for district priorities. While most of Cabarrus County is in North Carolina's 8th Congressional district, the northwestern portion is in District 6, which also covers Davidson, Davie, Rowan and part of Forsyth counties. The seat is held by Republican Addison McDowell, who is not on a primary ballot as he is uncontested within the Republican Party. McDowell will face the winner of this Democratic primary in the general election in the fall.
In the U.S. House, Republicans hold 218 seats and Democrats hold 213 seats (with some vacancies as of January 2026). Democrats need to gain a net of three districts to win a majority, while Republicans can lose no more than two districts to retain control. The Cook Political Report estimates that this district leans Republican by 9 percentage points.
