U.S. House of Representatives (NC-3)

U.S. House District 3 is a rural and coastal region along the eastern Atlantic coast. It covers the following counties: Duplin, Greene, Jones, Lenoir, Pitt, Wayne, Wilson and most of Onslow and Sampson.

Members of the U.S. House of Representatives serve two-year terms. They must be at least 25 years old, a citizen of the U.S. for seven years and live in the state they represent. They cast votes on bills, serve on committees, draft laws and focus on policy issues that are of interest to themselves or their constituents. High-level tasks of the U.S. Congress including funding government programs and oversight of the executive branch.

This district leans Republican and is one of the congressional districts that was redrawn by the N.C. legislature in 2025. In the 2024 presidential election, 56% of voters in the district's current borders voted for Donald Trump and 43% voted for Kamala Harris. Republican Greg Murphy is the incumbent in the District 3 seat. He faced no competition in the primary. Democrat Raymond Smith Jr., a former state legislator, won a competitive primary with 57% of the vote. There is also a Libertarian candidate, Daniel Cavender, in this race.
