U.S. House of Representatives (NC-9)

U.S. House District 9 includes a number of rural counties around Fayetteville and Greensboro, including most of Guilford and all of Alamance counties. It also includes Randolph, Moore, Hoke and parts of Chatham and Cumberland counties. This district includes 60% of Fayetteville's population.

Members of the U.S. House of Representatives serve two-year terms. They must be at least 25 years old, a citizen of the U.S. for seven years and live in the state they represent. They cast votes on bills, serve on committees, draft laws and focus on policy issues that are of interest to themselves or their constituents. High-level tasks of the U.S. Congress including funding government programs and oversight of the executive branch.

As of June 2026, the candidates in this race have raised the second largest amount of all the N.C. Congressional candidates (District 1 is the top). This district leans Republican: it has a Cook Partisan Voting Index of R+8. The candidates in this race are incumbent Republican Richard Hudson and Democrat Richard Ojeda. Richard Hudson has so far raised $2.77 million while Richard Ojeda, a military veteran and former West Virginia state legislator, has raised $1.9 million.
