She has promoted major development projects such as the Goodwill Opportunity Campus and Charlotte Premium Outlets, which she credits with generating local jobs. She also spearheaded job fairs targeting youth and airport workers. Her approach to homelessness in Charlotte combines housing with mental health and vocational services. She said in an interview with the Charlotte Ledger during the 2023 election that Charlotte has become segregated and the success of the city hasn’t been evenly distributed. She describes herself as an "ACTIVIST" having worked under leaders and learned about community organizing. Regarding the transit referendum, she says she is “questioning the benefits to our most vulnerable residents before making my decision.” On the council, Mayfield is known for speaking her mind.

Other personal:

Mayfield is Charlotte’s first openly LGBTQ+ citywide official. She studied construction management and community organizing and earned two associate's degrees from Central Piedmont Community College. Mayfield received endorsements from the Victory Fund, Charlotte Metrolina Labor Council and LGBTQ Meck Dems.

Why are you running for this role and why should voters pick you?

I am running to continue advocating for local residents. I helped to create the CLT+ App, created the District-3 Airport Job Fair that ran for 7 years, created the "TLCbyCLT" housing rehab program. I am leading the city "Faith In Housing Initiative", motioned for $1.5M of ARPA funds allocated to assist city employees facing financial challenges and have been a champion for Fire Department improvements that led to funding the study of a new "Burn Center" at the training academy.

What is one thing you would like to accomplish in the first six months if elected?

As it takes 6-votes to move policy forward, I would like to move Council towards preparing for financial shortfalls our residents that receive subsidies may be facing regarding their current housing under the Trump administration.

What is your position on the proposed transit tax and why? Will you vote in favor of it or against it in November?

As an elected, I voted to move the proposal to the ballot for residents to have a say in the decision. I personally am listening to residents and questioning the benefits to our most vulnerable residents before making my decision.

What endorsements from any notable NC organizations or individuals have you received?

Victory Fund, Charlotte Metrolina Labor Council and LGBTQ Meck Dems so far.

Tell us something unexpected about you that voters may be interested to know.

I am a fan of Sci-fi and enjoy attending Comic Con when my schedule allows, I also have a pretty good comic book collection.
