The issues he lists on his website are responsible growth, improving infrastructure (“adding sidewalks and enhancing our roads to meet the city’s growth”), revitalizing our downtown, environmental stewardship and “adopting the non-discrimination ordinance.” He says he cannot support the sales tax referendum because the tax burden is too high for Huntersville and Huntersville is unlikely to see enough benefits from it.

Other personal:

Coronet says he was raised in Wyoming and moved to Huntersville a decade ago. He and his partner have a daughter. He has a bachelor’s degree from Buena Vista University and was a contestant in the fifth season of MasterChef. He is a registered Democrat and endorsed by the LGBTQ Democrats of NC.

The Election Hub Questionnaire

Please provide demographic information about yourself to help voters (age, education, current occupation, where you live).

I'm 46 years old and reside in Huntersville, NC. I hold a bachelor's degree in Marketing. As a small business owner, I bring over 25 years of experience in the banking sector.

Why are you running for this role and why should voters pick you?  Please share any experience in an elected role that would be relevant to voters.

I have always prioritized civic engagement, volunteering with non-profits and the chamber of commerce since high school. After living in Huntersville for over ten years, where my daughter took her first steps, I am dedicated to investing in our community. It’s crucial to protect our tree canopy, improve our parks and green spaces, and develop our roads and sidewalks to keep up with our rapid growth.

Tell us about 2-3 professional accomplishments you have achieved in your work experience (not limited to public service) that give voters a sense of your leadership style or skills.

A) In high school, I founded a non-profit organization in my small town to create an all-weather track and field for my school. I’m proud to say that there is now a track and field bearing my name on a plaque.

B) I spent over 20 years involved with a non-profit in Des Moines, serving on the board for 10 years and as president for 2 years. Our mission was to bring arts education to local schools and introduce installation art to the city. I also developed a fundraiser called the Rock’n Run, a 5k event featuring local bands and artists along the greenbelt trail, culminating in a large concert. It was a significant success.

C) While living in Huntersville, I joined the HOA and have served as president for the past 5 years. During this time, I successfully facilitated the replacement of our town homes' leaky roofs and the renovation and painting of the rotting siding.

What is one thing you would like to accomplish in the first six months if elected?

I would collaborate with our City Manager to assess the development plan for our roads and sidewalks. My focus would be on expanding the roads and streets around the sites of our new schools, as many of these areas currently lack turning lanes and sidewalks.

What is your position on the proposed transit tax and why? Will you vote in favor of it or against it in November?

While I would be excited to see the Red Line extend to our area, I cannot support this bill. It proposes a 1 cent tax, equating to a 13.7% increase, which will be a permanent burden. Raleigh has no stake in this. Although Huntersville is one of the larger towns in Mecklenburg, we only have a single vote. The promised funding won't materialize until Charlotte is reimbursed $90 million for the railway.

What endorsements from any notable NC organizations or individuals have you received?

Red Wine and Blue, Victory fund, and LGBT Mecklenburg Democrats.

Tell us something unexpected about you that voters may be interested to know.

I was a contestant on Master Chef Season 5.
