Urban says he is passionate about the historic aspect of Matthews, specifically the downtown. He wants to continue to work on youth enrichment programs and support greenways and parks. He says he supports the authenticity of Matthews and its community.

He has a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from UNC Charlotte and is a 19-year resident of Matthews. He is the father of four daughters. He is registered as an unaffiliated voter.

Why are you running for this role and why should voters pick you?  Please share any experience in an elected role that would be relevant to voters.

I am uniquely qualified to address the long term growth issues of Matthews. Likewise, my tenure on the Town Board, 14 years, gives me a longstanding amount of experience addressing local & state issues.


Tell us about 2-3 professional accomplishments you have achieved in your work experience (not limited to public service) that give voters a sense of your leadership style or skills.

Our professional ethos is one of collaboration, and creating places in communities that are attainable and promote a live, work and play environment.


What is one thing you would like to accomplish in the first six months if elected?

Begin implementing the approved Park Bonds and advancing the new CMS school and discovery place kids projects.


What is your position on the proposed transit tax and why? Will you vote in favor of it or against it in November?

Will vote NO. Matthews will end up being taxed, yet will not reap the benefits of the tax. Many businesses in Matthews will be hurt, being so close to Union County with a lower sales tax.
